A made-up treat called Littmus Lozenges is referenced in Kate DiCamillo’s children’s book “Because of Winn-Dixie.” In the book, Littmus W. Block makes the candy, and one of their main ingredients is grief. Those who consume the candy experience its deliciousness and are reminded of their grief.
According to reports, the Littmus lozenges tasted like strawberry root beer. Their creator had experienced a great deal of loss in his life.
The book “Because of Winn-Dixie” was released in 2000, and a film version was made of it in 2005. The book garnered numerous honours and was listed among the Top 100 Children’s Books for Teachers in 2007.
