Does the Sweetest Day Apply to Men or Women?

The third Saturday in October is known as Sweetest Day, which is not specifically targeted at either men or women. It was initially established as a day to do something nice for orphans and the unfortunate, but it has now turned into a holiday for lovers.

According to About.com, Herbert Kingston, a candy industry employee who wanted to do something sweet for orphans and other Cleveland residents who were sometimes forgotten, started Sweetest Day in Cleveland, Ohio.

Kingston started giving out candy boxes to these people in 1922. When Hollywood stars helped with candy distribution during the Great Depression, the holiday saw a huge increase in popularity.

The day developed into a day on which anyone could show their love to another person and then into a holiday for lovers. Although it has expanded to other states throughout the years, it is primarily observed in Ohio.
