As of 2014, published directories state that the area code 723 is no longer in use. Therefore, phone calls that appear to come from that area code are typically regarded as fraudulent or spoofed.

According to Name That Number, telemarketers or bill collectors frequently use calls with the area code 723 to disguise their real phone number in an effort to deceive the recipient into picking up. Hackers may also use phone number spoofing in an effort to trick people into giving them information. It is advisable for the recipient to ignore calls from numbers they are unsure about, especially if they ask for sensitive information.
