When removing a Kwikset door knob, push the locking pin holding the stem and the knob together with a paperclip before pulling the knob out. Pull out both sides of the knob, take out the latch plate, then remove the inside faceplate of the knob to remove the entire door knob assembly. Pull the assembly away from the door and remove the strike plate after that.
Find a little hole in the knob’s sleeve that is between the back of the knob and the face of the door if you only want to remove the Kwikset door knob. Straighten the paperclip and insert it into the hole until resistance is encountered.
Now apply downward pressure to the metal piece. In turn, the locking pin is pressed. Pull the knob away from the stem to separate it.
Keep the door open while removing the two screws holding the inside faceplate down with a Phillips screwdriver. To remove the pieces, grasp the door knobs from opposite sides of the door and simultaneously pull them both away from the door.
Remove the latch plate’s screws to make it removable. Then, insert a flat-head screwdriver between the door and the latch plate and pry the latter out with the tool. With both hands, hold the assembly and pull it away from the door.
Next, locate the two screws that connect the door jamb and strike plate. To remove the plate, unscrew the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
