How Heavy Are Traffic Lights?

Polycarbonate is a type of composite plastic that is used to make traffic signals. Depending on their size, these signals can weigh anywhere from 15 to 30 pounds. Cast aluminium traffic signals are a bit heavier, weighing between 30 and 50 pounds.

Traffic lights with lenses that are 8 inches in diameter usually weigh 15 pounds, while those with lenses that are 12 inches in diameter usually weigh around 30 pounds. Most polycarbonate traffic lights have light plastic lenses and aluminium reflectors, which makes them lighter. The smaller ones are about 30 inches tall and have 8-inch lights, while the bigger ones are about 42 inches tall.
