How Many Cups of Sugar Are in a 5-Pound Bag?

There are roughly 11 1/4 cups of granulated white sugar in a 5-pound bag. Sugar can vary in content and include more or less. For instance, the same 5-pound bag of sugar provides 12 1/2 cups of brown sugar and 18 3/4 cups of confectioner’s sugar when measured separately.

The number of cups that can be taken from a bag of sugar depends on how the measuring preparations are done, such as sifting confectioner’s sugar or packing brown sugar. If a recipe includes ingredient weights and precise measurements are required, a small kitchen scale can be used to calculate the right amount of sugar to add.
