How Much Does a 4 X 8 Drywall Sheet Weigh?

The weight of a sheet of drywall is determined by its thickness, brand, and kind. A 4-foot by 8-foot sheet of normal 1/2-inch thick drywall weighs about 52 pounds. Green board, or moisture resistant drywall, is about the same weight as conventional drywall.

The weight of a sheet of drywall can be calculated by multiplying the total number of square feet by the weight of drywall per square foot. 1/2-inch thick drywall weighs about 1.6 pounds per square foot, whereas 5/8-inch thick drywall weighs about 2.31 pounds per square foot. Ultralight drywall has been a popular option since 2010. This lightweight drywall can be up to 30% lighter than regular drywall.
