How Much Sand Does a Cubic Yard Weigh?

A cubic yard of sand weighs between 2,600 and 3,000 pounds. Also about equivalent to 1 1/2 tonnes is this amount.

Gravel weighs slightly less per cubic yard, between 2,400 and 2,900 pounds, or around 1 1/2 tonnes. A cubic yard of sand should cover 100 square feet of ground at a 2-inch depth. Mulch weighs between 600 and 800 pounds per cubic yard, which is much less than the 100 square feet of ground that one cubic yard will cover. The weight of one cubic yard of earth is about 2,000 pounds.
