In 1991, Charles “Buck” Thurman was allowed to leave jail. Thurman was sentenced to seven years in prison for abusing his wife, Tracey. Tracey Thurman received a $2.3 million settlement after suing the city of Torrington for failing to safeguard her from harm.
On the basis of Thurman’s case, a legislation was passed. No matter whether the victim wished to file a report of the domestic violence, the Thurman Law mandated that the offender be detained.
Charles Thurman’s son, Charles Motuzick, has been detained for first-degree larceny and possession of narcotics. “A Cry for Help: The Tracey Thurman Story,” a movie based on Tracy Thurman’s life, was released in 1989. For the possession charge, Motuzick received a seven-year prison term in 2010.
