What in Mathematics Is a Number Model?

In mathematics, a number model is a phrase that clarifies the connections between the elements of a number story. The equation may be written in words or in number form and may involve the operations of addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.

The number models 6 + 7 = 13, 12 * 6 = 72, and 24 / 3 = 8 are all stated as numbers. The phrase “The area of rectangle A is equal to the product of sides D and E” is an illustration of a number model put in English. The same formula may be written as area = d * e in numerical form.
