What Is the 454 Chevy Big Block’s Firing Order?

A 454ci Chevrolet’s ignition firing order is 1, 8, 4, 3, 6, 5, 7, 2. The odd cylinders are on the right side of the engine, with cylinder 1 being the closest from the front. Starting with cylinder 2, the even-numbered cylinders are on the left.

Make sure that cylinder 1’s piston, which is located on the front driver side, is at top dead centre, the cylinder’s highest position, to guarantee appropriate spark plug wire routing. The spark plug terminal for cylinder 1 is then where the rotor within the distributor cap is pointing.

Depending on how the rotor is rotating, the remaining wires are hooked to the distributor in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, and then to the spark plugs in the correct firing sequence.
