What Is the Best Way to Remove a Kwikset Door Knob?

To remove a Kwikset door knob, press the locking pin that connects the knob and the stem together with a paperclip and pull the knob out. Remove the inside faceplate of the knob, pull out both sides of the knob, then remove the latch plate to remove the entire door knob assembly. To remove the striking plate, pull the assembly away from the door.

Look for a little hole in the sleeve of the Kwikset door knob between the back side of the knob and the door’s face to remove only the knob. Using a straightened paperclip, push it into the hole until you get some resistance.

Now, gently press the metal piece downward. The locking pin is pressed as a result of this action. Pull the knob away from the stem to separate it.

Keep the door open while undoing the two screws on the inner faceplate with a Phillips screwdriver to remove the entire door knob assembly. To remove the pieces, grab the door knobs on both sides of the door and pull them away from the door at the same time.

Undo the latch plate’s screws to remove it. Then, between the door and the latch plate, insert a flat-head screwdriver and work it to remove the latter. With your hands, grasp the assembly and pull it away from the door.

Next, locate the two screws that secure the strike plate to the door jamb. To remove the plate, undo the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
