A 2004 SizeUSA poll of over 10,000 persons found that the average American guy has a 42-inch chest. This is an increase of 2 inches from the 40-inch average recorded in a survey of a similar nature carried out by the United States Department of Agriculture in 1941.
Depending on a man’s age and race, his average chest size can change. For instance, the SizeUSA survey discovered that men between the ages of 18 and 25 have an average chest size of 41 inches, regardless of ethnicity.
Black males averaged 43 inches in height, white men averaged 44 inches, and men who identified their race as “other” averaged 42 inches in the 36 to 45 age group.
