Why Were Forks Placed in My Yard?

Forking, also known as sticking forks in someone’s yard, is a popular practical joke, claims “The Gainesville Sun.” Dozens or even hundreds of plastic forks are hidden in the victim’s yard as part of the joke.

Watching the victim laboriously take out every fork from the yard is a big part of the amusement of the practical joke. Forks can occasionally break off at the handle, leaving only the scarcely perceptible pointy end sticking out.

Forking, according to Chicago Sun-Times columnist and prank expert Neil Steinberg, follows in the tradition of the most traditional practical jokes, which need little work from the perpetrators and a lot from the target.
